The very founding of Sunway is based on the concept of sustainable development. Celebrating five decades of excellence, we are deepening our commitment to the sustainability agenda and to achieving net zero by 2050.

In conjunction with World Children’s Day, Sunway Group founder and chairman Tan Sri Sir Dr. Jeffrey Cheah spends some time with the young, inquisitive minds at Sunway International School, taking on questions from the little curious minds and how they share laughter and boundless joy of learning.

Sunway was the top conglomerate winner having swept five awards at the inaugural The Star ESG Positive Impact Awards 2023, taking home two Gold in the “Responsible Consumption & Production” and “Transformation” categories, and three Silver in “Water Management & Efficiency,” “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion” and “Supply Chain Management” categories.

Our initiative in addressing food security marches on with the Sunway Meal Pack-a-Thon 2022! Alongside Rise Against Hunger Malaysia, the aim is to pack a total of 270,000 meals in 2022 with the help of more than 650 Sunway volunteers across five different locations throughout Malaysia – in line with our pledge to pack two million meals for the underserved communities nationwide.

Underscoring our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2: Zero Hunger by 2030, we continue to positively impact millions of beneficiaries across the country in the lead up to our 50th anniversary in 2024.

In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 of ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing for all, Sunway has committed to a long-term partnership with the Malaysian AIDS Foundation to establish the MAF-Sunway Borneo Health Outreach Programme for Everyone (HOPE) Project. The project addresses the socio-economic barriers to HIV treatment, prevention and care services across the Borneo states of Sabah and Sarawak, and supports the efforts of AIDS eradication throughout Malaysia by 2030.

The world is changing, and so must we on our journey to net zero by 2050. In conjunction with Zero Emissions Day, we present our five Sunway Sustainability Goals established – from environmental preservation and conservation, business ethics, to giving to our communities nationwide.

Through the #SunwayForGood Food Bank, Sunway successfully helped struggling households nationwide during the Covid-19 pandemic with donation of essential items and food supplies. One of our biggest corporate contributors – FFM Berhad, played a big role by supplying over 5,000kg worth of grocery items, feeding more than 3,000 beneficiaries.

Mission 4.7 was founded by Global Schools and the SDG Academy, both flagship programs of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network, and the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, in partnership with UNESCO and the Centre for Sustainable Development at The Earth Institute, Columbia University. The initiative brings together leaders from across the world to highlight the critical importance of SDG target 4.7 and its role in ensuring quality education for all and education for sustainable development.

The collaboration led to the setting up of Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development at Sunway University, launched in December the same year.

This year, Sunway enters a rare category of global companies that have succeeded in marking their 50th anniversary. Since 2014, Sunway has reached out to a host of B40 communities nationwide through our flagship #SunwayforGood annual Raya Cheer programme. This Raya, we are bringing cheer to more than 22,000 beneficiaries from underserved communities across Malaysia.

As we celebrate the joy of festivities, let’s not forget the impact of our actions on the environment. In this Raya video, Sunway touches on the importance of waste management and the detrimental effects of single-use plastics, showcasing how we can do our part in keeping our homes green during the celebrations.

In this video produced for Lunar New Year titled “Sowing Seeds of Prosperity”, we seek to spread the message about living sustainably. It tells the story of little changemakers Xiao Wei and Ahmad, who revel in the joy of organic farming, providing a pertinent solution to the issues of rising costs of living and climate change.

In the lead up to the Lunar New Year, organic farming takes centre stage as we showcase the sustainable approach to growing nutritious produce, giving back to both society and the planet. The short film features the heartwarming tale of Xiao Wei, Ahmad and their friends, as they revel in the joy of organic farming before the Lunar New Year.

Deepavali commemorates the triumph of light over darkness, while the festival of lights also illuminates the importance of knowledge over ignorance. This Deepavali festive video follows the story of young change maker Kishen, who discovers and shares his newfound knowledge in repurposing used cooking oil to protect Mother Earth.

In this video released in conjunction with of National Day and Malaysia Day 2022, Sunway delves into the importance of educating current and future generations on how their actions towards Mother Earth today can greatly impact lives. Sunway extends Raya Cheer to some 20,000 B40 beneficiaries across Malaysia through essential items and financial aid distribution worth more than RM200,000. Staying true to our mission to advance inclusive growth, Sunway has a long-term partnership with the Malaysian AIDS Foundation to reach out to families and patients affected by HIV/AIDS.

Sunway celebrates Chinese New Year with more than 2,400 beneficiaries across three states and Klang Valley by donating goods worth RM84,000 to 14 orphanage homes and underprivileged families through the #SunwayforGood CNY Festive Cheer Initiative.
