Sunway Group won two recognitions at the 6th Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards (ASRA), one of the most prestigious international awards for sustainability reporting. Sunway is the only Malaysian conglomerate recognised at the awards, which evaluated close to 500 entries from 17 countries.

Sunway Berhad won Gold in the Asia’s Best Sustainability Report (Digital) category while Sunway REIT was honoured a Bronze for Asia’s Best Integrated Report (Design) category. The winners were revealed in an exclusive event hosted virtually in Singapore due to the ongoing pandemic.

“Both Sunway Berhad’s and Sunway REIT’s reports demonstrated exceptional leadership in transparent reporting of its sustainability performance and reflects its readiness for a resilient future,” said Rajesh Chhabara, founder of ASRA and managing director of CSRWorks International.

ASRA follows a rigorous multi-tier evaluation process, where an independent judging panel determines finalists and winners through three rounds of assessment to select the very best in each award category. In addition to assessing the report quality, comprehensive due diligence also considers companies’ reputation among their stakeholders as part of the judging process.

These accolades come following Sunway City’s achievement of receiving a Diamond recognition through the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) at this year’s Low Carbon City Awards. The winning criteria was based on Sunway City’s success in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 1.19% since 2018 through efficient energy and waste management.

The Low Carbon Cities 2030 Challenge is an initiative organised by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC), under the purview of the Environment and Water Ministry (KASA), to accelerate the transformation towards low carbon cities in Malaysia and recognise agencies that implement the National Low-Carbon Cities Framework and accelerate the transformation towards low carbon cities in Malaysia.

Sunway City Kuala Lumpur is today an 800-acre integrated smart sustainable city that is home to over 200,000 people. The township incorporates seven components, namely residential facilities, commercial facilities, education, healthcare, hospitality, retail, and leisure, enabling them to live, learn, work and play in a safe and healthy environment. The city also receives around 42 million visitors annually and has created more than 250,000 jobs.
