Being a voice for the
voiceless, documenting
history as it happens,
educating and entertaining
the masses are all in a day’s
work for a journalist.
As the Fourth Estate, the press plays a pivotal role in society
– keeping governments in check, upholding morals and
shaping public opinion, in line with the United Nations
Sustainable Development Goal (UN-SDGs), and speci cally
SDG-16 to promote peaceful and inclusive societies,
providing access to justice for all and building e ective,
accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
With globalisation, expanding mobile internet coverage and
technological advancements, information sources are now
more accessible than ever.
From traditional media of print, radio and television, to the
more current forms such as social media and podcast, news
is now disseminated in various ways across multiple devices
at a rate of knots.
Shorter deadlines, diverse news formats, and the relentless
24-hour news cycle may mean faster news for everyone, but
it also intensi es the pressure on editors, journalists and
producers to race against time in reporting the news while
verifying fact from ction, a task further complicated by the
emergence of arti cial intelligence (AI) technology.
Life as a media professional can be bustling and
occasionally overwhelming, yet each day is vibrant as
journalists interact with individuals from diverse
backgrounds to tell their stories.
