The power of the pen has the ability to influence and challenge readers, but it may also help you secure a bursary to fund your tertiary education before you even sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). Be in the running to win more than RM200,000 worth of Sunway bursaries, cash prizes and Sunway Pals points when you take part in Sunway-Oxbridge Essay Competition 2020!

Back for the seventh year, Sunway-Oxbridge Essay Competition is aimed at encouraging English writing as well as creative and analytical thinking amongst secondary school students.

Themed ‘integrity’ this year, the competition is open to Form 1 to Form 5 Malaysian students from all types of schools nationwide except those using international syllabus.

There are two categories:

1. Category A – For Form 1 to Form 3 students

In 200 to 350 words, participants must write an essay on the topic: “How is integrity applied in our everyday lives?”

2. Category B – For Form 4 and Form 5 students

In 500 to 650 words, participants must write an essay on the topic: “How is integrity applied in our everyday lives? Why is it important in this competition?”

All essays must be written in English and submitted online via the Sunway-Oxbridge Essay Competition official website by 11 March 2020, Wednesday, 1.00pm. Essays received after the deadline will not be entertained.

How will my essay be judged?

Essays will be evaluated based on originality and flair, link to academic standards and competent use of English as a written language. Proper punctuation, spelling and grammar are important.

How do I know if I make it to the finals?

The top 100 finalists will be announced on the Sunway-Oxbridge Essay Competition official website on 17 April 2020, Friday. If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to an on-site essay writing examination at specified location(s) which will be communicated later. Attendance is compulsory.

First place: RM5,000 cash, full Sunway Bursary*, Award Certificate, Trophy and 10,000 Sunway Pals points

Second place: RM3,000 cash, Sunway Bursary valued at RM15,000*, Award Certificate, Trophy, and 10,000 Sunway Pals points

Third place: RM1,000 cash, Sunway Bursary valued at RM10,000*, Award Certificate, Trophy, and 10,000 Sunway Pals points

Consolation: RM500 cash, Sunway Bursary valued at RM5,000*, Award Certificate, Medal and 10,000 Sunway Pals points.
