In the 1995 Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump, the titular character runs across the US without a purpose and inspires a group of people who blindly follow him.
Unlike Forrest Gump, Sunway Group empowered people to run for a meaningful cause through its Sunway The Good Run, an initiative aimed at motivating individuals to contribute to a healthy, sustainable community and living space.
Organised by Sunway Property and Sunway Medical Centre, in collaboration with the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana), the three-day sustainable living event took place in and around Sunway City from 27th to 29th October.
Over 6,000 Malaysians assembled at Sunway City on 29th October to race on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) – Sunway Line elevated guideway and around Sunway City, Malaysia’s first fully-integrated green township.
Participants and members of the public also took part in edutainment activities at the Sustainable Living Village set up in Sunway Geo, which was aimed at creating awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
SDG#3 (Good Health and Well-being):
Proceeds amounting to RM200,000 from Sunway The Good Run were channelled to Cancerlink Foundation to fund its Psychosocial Health Care Support Programme
SDG#9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure):
15km runners raced on the elevated tracks of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) – Sunway Line, on which eco-friendly electric buses run
SDG#12 (Responsible Consumption and Production):
- Reusable collapsible cups were used at water stops
- Participant tees were made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate, or recycled PET (RPET)
- Participants and the public learned about sustainable living practices via workshops and activities

- Wooden pallets were upcycled as booths at the Sustainable Living Village
