• Consistency is key to maintaining good habits effectively – and in the essence of Sunway’s Lunar New Year video for 2024 – this can be applied to good water management as well.

• We kickstarted our very first #SunwayforGood festive cheer for the year – reaching out to over a hundred children from selected homes in Perak and donated groceries to children’s homes in the state and Penang to aid their daily living.

Water is one of the most precious resources on our planet. However, when in abundance, it can easily be taken for granted. As quoted by historian Thomas Fuller, “We never know the worth of water till the well is dry.”

This festive season, we are placing the spotlight on water security, the need to safeguard its sustainability and how it is never too early to start inculcating this good habit.

Good habits, great outcomes

Our Lunar New Year video depicts how Sunway International School students embrace this wisdom of water conservation while participating in a school-wide spring cleaning in the beginning of the year. As they go about their assigned tasks, they are guided by their classmate , who emphasises the importance of being prudent with water consumption.

This includes reminders to turn off toilet taps tightly to avoid water wastage, as well as reusing harvested rainwater to water the plants and for other cleaning duties.

Good water habits can be learned and inculcated from a young age.

It is later revealed that Ying picked up these habits from observing her family’s water saving efforts and putting it into practice. The fun and light-hearted video underscores the importance of water conservation, no matter how small the drop.

Having water in abundance may cause us to take it for granted – hence it is important to understand how essential it is in our daily lives.

This video encapsulates how we at Sunway remain committed to ensuring water security and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, as well as continuously advancing sustainable solutions throughout our operations. This includes rainwater harvesting, groundwater extraction and the water treatment plant at Sunway South Quay lake that reduces the township’s reliance on municipal water supply.

This is in line with our steadfast commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs), with a particular focus on Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, as well as Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Joy in abundance

For the Lunar New Year, we held our first #SunwayforGood festive cheer at Sunway City Ipoh, in line with our goal to positively the lives of millions more in the lead up to our 50^th anniversary and to honour a foundational pillar of our five-decade-long journey – the community.

Together with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society of Perak, we hosted more than 145 children and their caretakers in Sunway City Ipoh. Starting off with a hearty breakfast, the children participated in a telematch and capped it off with an educational tour of the Tin Valley and Petting Zoo at Lost World Of Tambun (LWOT).

In line with the festivities, we have also provided essential grocery items worth more than RM16,000 to the homes of these children, which include Pusat Jagaan Pertubuhan Kebajikan Harapan Baru, The Salvation Army Boys Home Ipoh, Vision Home, Pusat Jagaan Anak-Anak Yatim dan Miskin Nurul Iman, Pertubuhan Badan Kebajikan Anak-Anak Yatim Darussalam and the Salvation Army Childrens Home.

We also distributed more than 300 boxes of grocery donation comprising essential goods to B40 households across Perak and Penang to provide relief to families as they celebrate the festive season.

The children were treated to a day of fun in the sun to ring in the festive season!
