• Sunway recently teamed up with Great Heart Charity Association to bring festive cheer to 222 urban poor families around Klang Valley from the B40 category.

The Chinese New Year is observed and grandly celebrated in Malaysia by the Chinese community. Preparation begins at least two weeks prior where red decorations adorn homes and streets while malls and markets are filled with busy shoppers. The familiar bursts of fireworks lighting up the night is another reminder of a festive season pending.

But alas, some are not as fortunate to share the same joy as others or have enough to usher in this auspicious occasion.

Since 2001, Sunway has brought joy to more than 100,000 lives by celebrating Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, and Deepavali with the underserved communities nationwide.

Sunway recently teamed up with Great Heart Charity Association to bring festive cheer to 222 urban poor families around Klang Valley from the B40 category to celebrate Chinese New Year Cheer 2020 on 15 February 2020.

Volunteers from Sunway, Great Heart Charity joined hands to give the beneficiaries something to smile about.

In the spirit of inclusivity, beneficiaries of Sunway’s ‘Share Because You Care’ Chinese New Year Cheer comprised Chinese, Malay and Indian families.

“This shows our true spirit as Malaysians when all races unite for a celebration like this,” said Yuen Chee Meng, Assistant General Manager of Branding for Sunway Group Brand Marketing and Communications department.

“I feel proud to be a part of Sunway. While the company is established and successful, we still take care of the little things in society, in this particular case, the less fortunate,” Yuen added.

Sunway employees made this event even more meaningful with their generous contributions of ang pows and groceries worth over RM41,000 to the beneficiaries.

One of the beneficiaries, Geetha Sangaran, expressed her gratitude, and mentioned that she felt special that Sunway assisted her during her time of need.

She has been with Great Heart Charity Association for almost a year, especially after her husband was diagnosed with a chronic pancreas disease.

“I think this is a good program. It is so heart-warming that Sunway is helping the B40 families in any way they can. I want to thank Sunway for their contribution towards the underserved communities,” Geetha said.
