Glowing Beyond Horizons

The year-end is one that is full of celebrations, but since global warming has become a pressing issue every year, Malaysians continue to grapple with flu season peaking.

This Deepavali, Sunway shows how technology can help light the way, bringing hope and brightness even in challenging times.
Deepavali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and wisdom over ignorance. In our Deepavali tribute this year, our featured character, Priya, as well as her friends and family, emphasises the profound connection between this symbolism and the role of technology. Embracing tech-savviness becomes a beacon of knowledge, demonstrating how it can illuminate our paths, dispel ignorance, and make life’s journeys significantly smoother.
Titled ‘Glowing Beyond Horizons’, the story begins with Priya’s mother expressing concern about the health of her family members due to the recent haze and viruses, fearing that they may not be able to prepare in time for Deepavali.
With support from Priya’s friends, who prepared her home for Deepavali – the family’s celebrations can continue, all with the help of the Sunway Super App. By optimising the use of the app, the inconveniences of being unable to travel to do their shopping, cleaning and décor are eliminated. The family was able to take advantage of the app to fulfill their needs – just in time for the festivities.
While this tale does tug at one’s heartstrings, it is also an example of how tradition and technology can go hand in hand in our journey towards more future-ready avenues in a digital-first world. As Sunway approaches its 50th anniversary next year, it remains committed to serving its community and beyond through its people, businesses and sustainable leadership, both now and in the future.
Lighting Up the Celebrations
Nothing brightens the soul more than a joyful memory, and Sunway alongside Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) was able to bring cheer to little ones from five orphanages and community care centres in Johor, namely: Malaysia Hindu Sangam Skudai Council, Pusat Kebajikan Kalvari Teenagers & Boys Home, I Care Community Centre, Taman Tun Aminah, Bukit Indah, and Taman Sri Stulang.
A total of 100 children from five different homes enjoyed a day in Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, beginning with a wholesome breakfast at Sunway Big Box Hotel. This was followed by a shopping excursion to Sports Direct, with their caretakers accompanying them. After purchasing the items of their choice, the children were then treated to an afternoon of games and activities, as well as a sumptuous lunch back at the hotel – fun activities included face painting and entertainment from two clowns, and also went home with toys from Sunway Multicare Pharmacy.
To commemorate their fun-filled day with Sunway, the children also went home with vitamin supplements, pencil cases, Faber Castell stationery sets, Deepavali cookies and snacks.
Aside from putting a smile on these children’s faces, Sunway, alongside various partners such as Selangor Youth Community and Persatuan Kebajikan Thirumular Malaysia via MRC, is also bringing light and warmth to other homes by donating some RM100,000 spread across selected homes in Johor and Klang Valley. This includes donations of more than 600 boxes of groceries to selected B40 families in a bid to lighten their burden this festive season.
Gerard Soosay, chief executive officer of Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, shares that it is always rewarding to see the smiles on the faces of the community, especially in their time of need.
“Being there with and for the people is our commitment as we work to transform the lives of the community through activities such as this, with #SunwayforGood. A little help can go a long way in impacting others positively, and we intend to pay it forward by providing what we can, when we can. Sunway intends to walk the talk by building a future that is inclusive, innovative and sustainable – and it all begins with reaching out to others and giving our support.”
Sunway wishes all celebrating a Happy Deepavali! May light prevail over us in the darkest of times, and may we stand strong, together.
