Clean Clothes, Cleaner Planet

Indulging in the luxurious comfort of a soft and fluffy hotel bed is one of the most unforgettable experiences of any trip. But have you ever thought about the environmental impact behind this indulgence?
According to an article by the National Park Service – an esteemed agency of the U.S. federal government, it’s estimated that the average commercial laundry uses more than 131,505 litres of water and up to 910 kWh of electricity per year. It is a massive amount that comes with a hefty price tag – and not just financially. The impact of this energy consumption and water usage contributes to a host of sustainability issues.
But what if we could change that? What if we could do laundry differently – with an eye towards sustainability and the health of our planet?
Sustainable Investments to Position Our Way Forward
Nestled in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, Sunway Pristine Laundry is revolutionising the laundry industry with the investment of RM30 million in state-of-the-art laundry equipment from top German and Japanese brands. These water-efficient machineries are projected to save up to 200 million litres of water annually – that’s enough water to fill over 80 million water bottles!
We also have plans to introduce an RFID linen and uniform tracking system equipped with an automated tracking system that will further expedite our operations. This provides us with reduced downtime, ensures accurate tracking and minimises errors that will aid our businesses such as our hotels.
Global findings from McKinsey, Boston Consulting Group, and Deloitte have proven that investments in sustainability can lead to significant financial benefits in a circular economy.
Sunway Pristine Laundry is setting the standard for other companies by proving that sustainability and profitability are not mutually exclusive. Sunway Pristine Laundry executive director Alex Teo believes that “by reducing waste and electricity consumption, cost is also managed in the long run, along with the risks we impose on the planet with these daily tasks.”
Realising a Better Tomorrow
Our commitment to sustainability does not stop there. We are taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint by transitioning to renewable energy sources. At present, Sunway Pristine Laundry uses natural gas – a clean energy which is safe to store – for heating purposes. By 2050, Sunway Pristine Laundry aims to use rooftop solar panels to power its operations. This transition to solar power will significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, bringing us closer to the ultimate goal of achieving net zero and aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 6, 9, 11, 12, and 17.
Sunway Pristine Laundry’s sustainable laundry practices is a testament to our vision of a better tomorrow – one that we hope will inspire others in the industry and beyond.
