The Sunway Group has made considerable commitments in the past 30 years and continues to scale up its involvement in the areas of education, healthcare and socio-economic activities. The Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme demonstrates unflinching commitment to social responsibility by providing a variety of opportunities to improve lives and contribute to the economic and social well-being of its employees, shareholders and the local communities in which it operates.

Education

The Sunway Education Trust Fund, through its two institutions, Sunway University College and Monash University Sunway Campus has awarded nearly RM40 million in scholarships since 1997. Collectively, we have contributed more than RM8 million to support schools, including SMK Bandar Sunway, SJK (C) Chee Wen’s, Klang Convent and the Gunung Hijau Primary School for new facilities.

The Group also takes pride in the Job Placement Programme it created, a pioneering concept integrating social responsibility and education that benefits special students with Downs syndrome, autism, hyperactivity and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. The successful programme offers the students job opportunities at its subsidiaries, equipping them with basic skills and hands-on knowledge, and to provide exposure and experience of the working environment intended to grow them into becoming more independent.

Socio-economic Responsibilities

Designed to support identified non-profit organizations, non-governmental organizations and other forms of associations in their activities and missions, the Sunway Group has embarked upon a multitude of accomplished projects including the Chow Kit Kids programme that takes care of special children from Yayasan Salam Malaysia i.e. providing monetary support, and free, regular medical checks.

Reaffirming its commitment to the safety of the community, the Group launched Bandar Sunway Safe City initiative in 2001- a strategic and successful partnership with the Royal Malaysian Police and the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) in combating crime within Sunway townships and all its project sites.

Sunway also contributed RM600,000 to build a police station and provided two joint patrol vehicles with security guards to carry out patrolling within Bandar Sunway. The Sunway Integrated Resort City has also trained 600 security personnel, 83 of which have been accorded full-fledged Auxiliary Police status, who work in tandem with the police.

Healthcare

As a leader in the healthcare industry, the Sunway Group’s Smoke-Free campaign aims to create a smoke-free workspace for all its employees by July 1, 2009 across Bandar Sunway and all buildings managed by Sunway in more than 40 locations worldwide.

The Group also works hand-in-hand with the National Kidney and Malaysian Liver Foundations in spearheading innovative programmes including the first customized NKF LifeCheck Mobile Health Screening Clinic which makes healthcare affordable to the public, especially to the needy.
